As of now we still use PHP 5.2, which will not be further developed by the PHP developers. Therefore no future security and bug fixes will be created for PHP 5.2. To continue offering as much secure as possible web hosting, Nova Hosting will upgrade to version 5.3 this month. We already started a closed test phase with some customers where we ran their websites under PHP 5.3. The feedback has been very positive - all the websites worked without problems. By changing the version number from 5.2 to 5.3, a lot of new features have been introduced, which are very interesting for PHP developers. For example it will be possible to use namespaces and jump labels (goto). As this is always the case with new versions, some functions have been marked as deprecated. They will still be available and will work, but in future PHP versions (PHP 6) such functions won't be working anymore. A list of the deprecated features can be found here: http://www.php.net/manual/en/migration53.deprecated.php. Developers should adapt their codes, if necessary, in order to have a code compatible to future PHP versions. Your login will be more secure. To use FTPES, you need to change the connection setting in your FTP program. In the program FileZilla you can do this by changing the option "Servertype". Select "Require explicit FTP over TLS". The port doesn't change (21). Please set the port if you haven't already.
